Female Plumbers You Didn’t Think This Job Was Just For Men, Did You?

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

Skilled work has normally been perceived to be the job of men; men who usually do all the hard work such as building construction, installing auto parts, repairing broken down appliances and other electrical-powered machines, assembling guns, and fighting fire. There’s work that not only men can do. Female plumbers have invaded this skilled level job and they are growing in numbers both coming from companies and freelance.

Female plumbers address the issue of letting strangers into people’s homes especially to do something like fix the flush on the toilet. Usually, it’s the women of the home who are tasked to check on everything that has to deal with the house, such as the kitchen appliances, the fridge, the kids’ rooms, and even now of course, the bathrooms. Most of the time, the women are left at home while the men are at work, and it is a bit awkward for a male plumber to be coming into the house to install a new gas pipe or to fix the bathroom sink. It makes women feel a bit more comfortable having a woman do those things around the house for them. If a woman were reading this, I know she would agree; so would the husbands.

Female plumbers have grown to a huge number because of equal opportunities given to both men and women to become employed as skilled or semi-skilled workers in the United States, UK, or Australia. Of course, some sectors see female plumbers to be a violation of certain occupations which are supposed to only be for men, but the theory that “what men can do, so can women” states otherwise. The majority of female plumbers belong to collective unions and with these unions they fight for their rights to have a decent job as anybody in the community they belong to.
